Railcar Repair Technician

What You'll Do:
- Performs preventative maintenance, structural and mechanical repairs.
- Follows appropriate procedures and diagnostic inspection for determining and approving work orders.
- Determines causes of operating problems, consults schematics and orders or fabricates replacement parts.
- Installs and repairs subassemblies or final product, related parts, and mechanical components.
- Performs maintenance, modification and rehabilitation of fabricated metal products and supporting operating systems according to work orders, blueprints, and schematics.
- May oversee heat treatment as needed. Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications.
- Tests and troubleshoots product operation and makes adjustments.
- Requires knowledge of industry specific tests and testing equipment.
- Uses automated and manual techniques including ultrasound and radiography to perform non-destructive tests to identify errors or defects in product.
- May be responsible for testing engines or other mechanical components.
- Maintains and completes all required records.
- Follows all safety rules and practices.
- May be involved in safety committees or initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Regularly performs tear down work
- Performs mechanical fastening (bolts, nuts)
- Accurately measures to specifications
- Works from blueprints or other specifications/schematics
- Maintains and repairs subassemblies
- Welds in multiple positions on stainless steel or aluminum
- Performs TIG or MIG welding
- Performs appropriate NDE for diagnostic and compliance purposes (bubble leak, dye penetrant, UT, or UTT)
- Applies appropriate torque sequence and values (certified)
- Performs simple troubleshooting and repair of mechanical systems
- Understands and performs Pipe Fitting
- Fabricates various parts and/or framework
