TrinityRail is hiring a Quantitative Strategist in Dallas, Texas!
The Quantitative Strategist will collaborate closely with the analysis team to identify and enhance railcar commercial, manufacturing, and investment ideas with quantitative insights derived from research, customer feedback and data. The Quantitative Strategist should have end-to-end data modeling experience, driven to enhance strategic business decisions from problem definition architecture development, to model development culminating with presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
The successful candidate will combine the ability to ask the right questions, with the drive to answer them, clearly and persuasively through rigorous predictive data modeling.

What you'll do:
- Develop and apply data mining, machine learning and statistical modeling techniques to forecast TrinityRail’s end markets, orders and deliveries, lease rates and returns, maintenance spend, among many other high-impact financial areas
- Maintain, update, and improve existing predictive models to enhance accuracy, depth of coverage, and drive adoption across the business
- Formulate actionable commercial, manufacturing, and investment strategies by leveraging model predictions that identify emerging opportunities and risks
- Present and discussing model results/recommendations with senior leadership, effectively communicating insights to directly impact strategic business decisions
- Collaborate with numerous functions throughout the organization to enrich market intelligence, improve financial forecasting and commercial operations, and support strategic planning processes
- Conduct custom analyses for leadership to support high priority business needs and strategic decisions
What you'll need:
- Strong quantitative modeling background coupled with an understanding of finance/economics
- Masters and/or PhD in Mathematics, Finance/Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, and Financial Engineering strongly preferred. Candidates with only Bachelor’s degrees will also be considered given equivalent work experience
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in data-driven strategic financial projects
- At least 3 years of specific experience in quantitative finance, data science, or another closely-related quantitative field
- At least 3 years applied experience with Python (preferred), R, and/or other similar scripting languages; experience with SAS, MATLAB, C++ and other languages a plus
- Expert level mastery of quantitative modeling, including creating statistical models to identify, analyze, and propose strategic financial opportunities. Ability to work with large/complex data sets and experience with back-testing strategies
- Experience with relational databases, including querying databases, writing SQL queries, building data visualizations (Tableau/Qliksense/Power BI); expert-level Excel user
- Knowledge and high level of interest in the rail transportation industry and the broader transportation sector
- Passion for and fluency in investment finance, familiarity with leasing, capital markets, and financial accounting
- Excellent problem solving, analytical and interpersonal communication skills
- Natural ability to interpret complex data and to frame issues in a concise, logical manner
- Experience with portfolio management, financial engineering, and/or securities trading preferred

- Prior Quantitative Strategy and/or Data Science experience at a leading financial or investment institution
- CFA Charterholder and/or MBA degree with substantial Python modeling experience
- Experience using cloud based data model orchestration tools
